Meet the Whiptail Music instructors!

Adrian Santos

Voice, Piano

Adrian Santos, instructor at Whiptail Music Studio in El Paso, TX.

Adrian Santos began studying music in the 6th grade joining both band and choir and after middle school primarily stuck to vocal performance while studying both guitar and piano. After high school he studied music education at the University of Texas at El Paso with a concentration in vocal performance. He has been teaching privately since 2022 and currently is one of the owners of Whiptail Music Studio. He strives to teach versatility as a vocal coach with his prior experience in classical, vocal jazz, commercial music and choral music. His goal both as an owner and instructor is to help build a stronger sense of community within music for the city of El Paso.

Luis rIOS

Violin

Luis Rios, instructor at Whiptail Music Studio in El Paso, TX.

Luis Rios joined Whiptail Music in 2025 and is a recent UTEP graduate, earning his degree music performance, with a concentration in violin. He is in the mariachi group Alba de Mexico and plays with a symphony in El Paso. He is passionate about working with the future generation of musicians and cultivating a space for music education in El Paso.

cHRISTIAN mELENDEZ

Drums

Christian Melendez, instructor at Whiptail Music Studio in El Paso, TX.

Christian Melendez is a Music Business major and percussionist with over 10 years of experience. He plays for The Hummingbirds and often backs other local groups. He has studied jazz drumming for four years, marched snare, and spent two seasons on drum set with the front ensemble. He has also performed with the WTCA ensemble, adding further performing experience. He is more than excited to help our students grow their skills and confidence behind a drum set.


Renee Guzman

Piano, Voice, Guitar, Drums & Cello

Renee Guzman, instructor at Whiptail Music Studio in El Paso, TX.

Renee Guzman’s musical journey began in 2nd grade when her brother encouraged her to learn piano, later expanding to guitar, cello, drums, and electric bass. In her senior year, she joined her high school choir, sparking her passion for vocal performance. Now a music education major at UTEP focusing on voice, she has performed with groups such as the UTEP Concert Chorale, Opera UTEP, The Gilbert & Sullivan Company, and El Paso Opera. Renee looks forward to teaching and keeping music alive in the El Paso community.

Beto Torres

Guitar

Beto Torres, instructor at Whiptail Music Studio in El Paso, TX.

Beto Torres graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso in 2022 with a degree in guitar performance and is currently obtaining his masters in performance as well. He has worked as a teacher at Instituto Contetl in Juarez and later at St Matthew’s Catholic school. Beto is a dedicated musician and is excited to help the next generation of musicians here in El Paso!
